Audacity For Catalina

Audacity For Catalina

If you’ve recently upgraded your Mac to Catalina or Mac OS 10.15.1, you may have noticed that Audacity is no longer working. To get it working, you’ll need to download version Audacity 2.3.3. However, installing and running it normally the way you’ve done it in the past will not be enough. Because of Catalina, Audacity is not able to gain permissions to the microphone inputs. The only way I was able to get it working is to launch Audacity from the Terminal.

Launch Audacity from the Terminal.

Audacity’s new release, scheduled for 10th November, won’t work natively with macOS Catalina after all. The organisation has quietly added a note, after our story yesterday, noting that the upcoming release still won’t work natively with Catalina, and will require a fiddly workaround. Note that Audacity has dropped the support for Windows XP, but it still supports Windows 7, 8, and 10. They still haven’t added a version for macOS Catalina (10.15.). If you have an older operating system, visit one of the legacy download pages for Mac or Windows.
